From Bright there are dozens of great day-trips to places like Beechworth, Harrietville, Mt Hotham, Falls Creek & Dinner Plain just to mention a few. Harrietville, halfway between Mt Hotham and Bright is a picturesque small town with a history of gold mining that dates. They must have started pretty early I thought. Hey, for a really nice ride instead of turning off Mt Buffalo Rd just keep riding up past Lake Catani we stopped in at the kiosk/shop just past the lake. the start of The Meg, which is a steep RHer and if you enter too fast, you cant do much about it. At the 10km mark youll pass The Font and an amazing rock face on the left of the road. After 400m of steeper climbing the road flattens out again and a more pedestrian grade is maintained for the next 700m. They reopened the road to Hotham for this Easter weekend. The Mt. A-grade riders in the Tour of Bright will complete the climb in under 80 minutes but anything under two hours is a commendable effort.
